Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0385129A1] In a short-trajectory projectile, the projectile body (11) will, if possible, have the same properties within the practical attack distance as the corresponding normal projectile. To reduce the trajectory of the projectile while it is in flight, the following means can be employed: a) The projectile tip (13) is produced from a plastic, the surface of which varies as a result of air friction during flight to such an extent that the air resistance is increased and the trajectory reduced, above all in the subsonic range. b) The projectile surface is covered at least partially with a plastic layer (17). As a result of the air friction, this layer is sharply modified, with the result that the air resistance increases and the trajectory is reduced. c) The projectile surface is roughened or provided with grooves and is smoothed by means of a plastic layer. As a result of the air friction, this layer disappears and the original projectile surface causes a reduction of the trajectory. <IMAGE>
