[origin: JPH02271057A] PURPOSE: To prevent mechanical wear and maintain the rigidity in a cylinder block by providing a cylinder head as well as combustion chambers both adjacent to cylinders with thermal-expansions devices made up of thermal-expansions slots. CONSTITUTION: The main partial regions of cylinders 2 and 3 are surrounded by cooling-water channels 8 and 9. Partitioning walls 13 extending just across the longitudinal direction C-C are each formed therein with a thermal-expansions slot 14, which opens on the cooling-water channels 8 and 9 at both its ends 15 and 16. The thermal-expansions slots 14 are each filled with a resin in the shape of an elastic body, and provided with sealing bodies 20 and 21 about their ends 15 and 16. The cylinder block is thus protected against mechanical wear so as to maintain its own rigidity.
