[origin: EP0386485A2] In a control panel for an electronic switch tower, the track keyboard (13) contains only elements, namely track keys (14), which are used for issuing commands and are assigned in terms of position both to the illustrated track sections and are also arranged in a matrix and can be interrogated by line. Furthermore, the drive signal transmitted by a display computer (3) to the colour display device (11) contains, apart from the signal for generating a compressed overview image (12), only the data relevant for displaying the track-free and track-occupied state by colour changes, the route and the train numbers. As a result, it is possible for switch tower areas to be operated with up to 80 sets of points by means of one track keyboard and to be capable of being illustrated on one colour display device. Only under specific brief operating conditions and in the event of a fault is the magnified image of the respective area of interest switched in a conventional manner to a second colour viewing device. <IMAGE>
