With this safety device, the dangerous gap between the moving step (1) and the fixed base plate (10) provided on both sides of the step conveyor on which persons can step is covered by means of an elastic plastic lip (6; 7; 8; 9) fastened to the side edges of the step (1) of an escalator in the area of the tread surface (1.1) and the front end (1.2). Mit dieser Sicherheitseinrichtung wird mit Hilfe einer an den Seitenkanten der Stufe (1) einer Fahrtreppe im Bereich der Trittfläche (1.1) und des Stirnteiles (1.2) befestigten elastischen Kunststofflippe (6; 7; 8; 9) der gefährliche Spalt zwischen der bewegten Stufe (1) und den auf beiden Seiten des betretbaren Stufenbandes vorgesehenen festen Sockelplatten (10) abgedeckt. Die Kunststofflippe (6; 7; 8; 9) ist ein Teil eines Kunststoff-Einsatzstückes (2; 3; 4; 5), welches in entsprechenden Aussparungen auf beiden Seiten des Körpers der Stufe (1) im Bereich der horizontalen Trittfläche (1.1) und im Bereich der gewölbten Stirnseite (1.2) anschraubbar ist. Sie passt sich bei eventuellen Ungenauigkeiten der Sockelplatte (10) an diese an und weist einen sehr geringen Reibungskoeffizienten auf. Die Kunststofflippe (6; 7; 8; 9) ist an der Stufe (1) so festgemacht, dass der Spielraum für den Durchlauf der Stufe (1) durch einen am oberen und am unteren Ende der Fahrstrecke der Fahrtreppe angeordneten Kamm nur minim vergrössert werden muss und sie zusammen mit dem Einsatzstück (2; 3; 4; 5) jederzeit an der Stufe (1) an- oder abschraubbar ist, ohne dass die Stufe (1) aus dem Stufenband ausgebaut werden muss.
