[origin: EP0386863A2] The invention relates to an installation for controlling the conical form of the narrow-side plates of a plate mould for the production of slabs, in particular steel slabs, by the continuous casting method, in which the contact of the strand shell against one narrow-side plate and the bulge of the strand shell are determined by means of measuring transducers and the conical form of the narrow-side plates is readjusted to a desired value. In order to adjust the conical form of the narrow mould plates as a function of the shrinkage conditions which actually prevail in the mould and to make possible reliable guidance of the strand in combination with adequate cooling and minimum plate wear, it is proposed that two measuring transducers (7) be arranged in one cross-sectional plane in the lower region of one narrow-side plate (1), namely one in the centre and one in the edge region of the strand in each case, and that the narrow-side plates (1) be set to a conical form and corrected during operation, with the result that the central measuring transducer (7) always indicates a contact with the strand shell (9) and the other measuring transducer (7) does not undershoot a minimum distance from the strand shell (9). <IMAGE>
