[origin: EP0387371A1] For rapid and dimensionally precise cutting out of pieces of clothing from a web of material (48) with little production expenditure, said web of material is guided over a cutting table (10) from a supply roll (46) with the aid of a continuous transport belt (14). In this case, the pieces are cut out under program control (40) with the aid of at least two cutting devices (34) arranged one after the other in the conveying direction while the transport belt (14) is running. The cutting devices (34) are displaceable in the longitudinal direction of the cutting table (10) and transversely thereto. In this case, the program control (40) ensures that the cutting devices (34) are always kept spaced apart by a safety margin. <IMAGE>
