The invention relates to binders based on aqueous alkali metal silicate solutions having an SiO2 content of 22 to 33% by weight and a content of glycerol and polyglycerols, which contain: a) 70 to 99% by weight of an aqueous alkali metal silicate solution having an SiO2 content of 23 to 37% by weight and a molar ratio SiO2 : Me2O of (2.0 to 3.3) : 1, Me denoting sodium and/or potassium and/or lithium, and b) 1 to 30% by weight of a mixture, dissolved in the alkali metal silicate solution, of glycerol and polyglycerols having an OH number in the range from 1560 to 1200, containing, based in each case on the mixture: 70 to 15% by weight of glycerol, 40 to 6% by weight of diglycerol, 5 to 20% by weight of triglycerol, 3 to 13% by weight of tetraglycerol and 12 to 30% by weight of higher polyglycerols, the proportions of the stated individual components of the mixture summing to 100% by weight in each case.

Gegenstand der Erfindung sind Bindemittel auf Basis wäßriger Alkalimetallsilikatlösungen mit einem SiO2-Gehalt von 22 bis 33 Gew-% sowie einem Gehalt an Glycerin und Polyglycerinen, welche enthalten: a) 70 bis 99 Gew.-% einer wäßrigen Alkalimetallsilikatlösung mit einem SiO2-Gehalt von 23 bis 37 Gew.-% und einem Molverhältnis SiO2 : Me2O von (2,0 bis 3,3) : 1, wobei Me Natrium und/oder Kalium und/oder Lithium bedeutet, und b) 1 bis 30 Gew.-% eines in der Alkalimetallsilikatlösung gelösten Gemisches aus Glycerin und Polyglycerinen mit einer OH-Zahl im Bereich von 1560 bis 1200, enthaltend, jeweils bezogen auf das Gemisch: 70 bis 15 Gew.-% Glycerin, 40 bis 6 Gew.-% Diglycerin, 5 bis 20 Gew.-% Triglycerin, 3 bis 13 Gew.-% Tetraglycerin, 12 bis 30 Gew.-% höhere Polyglycerine, wobei sich die Anteile der angegebenen Einzelbestandteile des Gemisches jeweils auf 100 Gew.-% ergänzen.
