[origin: EP0388708A1] The invention proposes a strip accumulator for the continuous operation of rolling lines, in particular a loop-forming strip accumulator for sheet-metal strips 8 in strip-processing plants, the said strip accumulator comprising a looper car 2 which can be moved on wheel guides 4 to produce a change in the loop, the looper car having at least one deflection roller 5 for a strip loop. Connected to the looper car 2 are supporting cars 9, which can likewise be moved on guides and are connected by traction elements such as cables, chains or the like and are provided with at least one supporting roller 10, 11 for the strip 8. The strip accumulator is equipped with at least one feed roller and one discharge roller 7 for the sheet-metal strip 8. In order to make the spacings between the supporting cars 9 themselves and between the supporting cars 9 and the looper cars 2 equal at all times when the looper car is moved over particular distances, a torque resistance, preferably a torque motor 16, interacting with a cam drum 15, is arranged on each supporting car 9, a traction cable 20 running on the drum profile 23 of the cam drum 15. <IMAGE>
