[origin: EP0389870A2] The peripheral grinding wheel (1) comprises an abrasive body (2) which sits on a spindle or shaft (4) via a metal hub (3). Here, this grinding wheel (1) forms an electrode which can be connected to a high-voltage generator (9) and whose opposite electrode is a casting (7). An arc producing a control signal is struck between the grinding wheel (1) and the casting (7) when they approach one another. For this purpose, the grinding wheel (1) is designed so as to be electrically conductive over its entire extent. <IMAGE>
