[origin: EP0390005A2] For a multi-ply papermachine wire with longitudinal threads and at least two plies of transverse threads, the longitudinal and transverse threads being woven with one another in a 16-shaft construction and long floats of transverse threads being present on the wire underside on the running side, it is proposed that the transverse threads floating on the running side are each crossed on the wire underside by two longitudinal threads which are separated by at least two adjacent longitudinal threads outside the region of the wire underside. This makes it possible to achieve a long service life in operation, good running properties and stability, a low driving energy consumption and a reduced tendency to become marked. <IMAGE>
