[origin: EP0390100A2] The invention relates to a special thermosyphon and a special heat pipe which are provided for insertion into liquid or pasty media. Such instances of application exist, e.g., in the extraction of geothermal energy or waste heat from canals or else sewage works. If normal thermosyphons or heat pipes are immersed in water or sludge, the mass they displace is greater than their own weight, and they float. In such a case, either the installation cannot be performed, or in the case of a horizontal installation position the surface of the thermosyphon or of the heat pipe is not fully wetted. This produces a sharp reproduction in the amount of heat coupled in. The invention makes available a special thermosyphon and a special heat pipe in the case of which this problem is eliminated owing to integrated ballast. <IMAGE>
