Leakproof closing device (1) for a manhole (2), comprising a frame (4) and at least one removable cover (6) fitting into said frame, this frame, designed so as to be fastenable, so that the cover (6) is substantially horizontal, sealingly in an orifice (5) of the manhole, having a continuous horizontal groove (12) formed over its entire periphery below the level of the cover, so that the orifice of the groove faces towards the latter, the lower face (13) of said cover (6) being equipped with a continuous projection (14) intended for penetrating into the groove (12) of the frame, the cross-section of the projecting portion (14) penetrating into said groove (12) being smaller than the corresponding cross-section of the latter, a liquid or viscous substance (15) being deposited in the groove (12), sealing means (17) being arranged to interact with the frame and cover, in order to prevent the passage towards the groove (12) of solids or liquids which may infiltrate into the gap (18) present between the frame and the cover. <IMAGE>
