Bei einem Verfahren zum Regeln der Drehzahl eines Dieselmotors eines Straßenfertigers, an den neben einem Fahrantrieb Arbeitsaggregate anschließbar sind, und bei dem eine Verstelleinrichtung die Einspritzpumpe zwischen Leerlauf und Nenndrehzahl verstellt, und ein an den Fahrantrieb angeschlossener Fahrhauptschalter für den Einbau-Arbeits-Fahrbetrieb vorgesehen ist, wird die Drehzahl während Unterbrechungen des Einbau-Arbeits-Fahrbetriebs automatisch an den momentanen Leistungsbedarf der zu diesem Zeitpunkt aktiven Arbeitsaggregate, z.B. Förderer, Heizung, Verdichter, angepaßt. Eine zum Durchführen des Verfahrens geeignete Vorrichtung weist eine mit der Verstelleinrichtung (4, 6, 3) verbundene Verstellhilfsvorrichtung (10, 10') auf, die zumindest mit einem Schalter (26) oder einer Schalteinheit (20) zum Zu- und Abschalten des Arbeitsaggregats (33, 19) in Schaltverbindung steht und die Einspritzpumpe (2) aus der Leerlaufdrehzahlstellung automatisch bis zur Nenndrehzahlstellung verstellen kann. Bei Unterbrechungen des Einbau-Arbeits-Fahrbetriebs werden die Umweltbelastung und der Energieverbrauch vermindert.
