[origin: EP0391246A2] A pair of paper holding rollers, consisting of two rollers (1, 55), grips a print carrier web (57) on occurrence of a tear in the print carrier web such that damage to the printing unit is avoided. In this case, one of the rollers (e.g. 1) is moved relative to the other roller (e.g. 55), in that the diameter of this roller (1), consisting of a plurality of segments, is increased. This takes place by the segments (2, 3, 4) being moved radially outwards by swivellable levers (9, 54) when, on occurrence of a tear in the web, catches (20, 21) release a ring (15) which is displaceable on the spindle axle (13) and is prestressed by a compression spring (16). The lever (9) is attached on one side to the inside of a segment (2) and on the other side to the spindle (13), a bolt (38), attached to the ring (15), engaging in the elongate hole (37) of said lever. <IMAGE>
