Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0391360A1] In a ballast for a directly heated discharge lamp (6) a controllable switch (14) is connected in series with the capacitor (5) which is located in parallel with the electrodes (7, 8) of the lamp and is part of the series resonant circuit (3, 4). After the lamp has ignited, this switch is opened by a changeover signal generated by a transformer (9). The transformer (9) has two primary windings (10, 11), of equal size but of opposite sense, and one secondary winding. <IMAGE>
