[origin: EP0392187A1] A control device (Fig.1) for diesel internal combustion engines is disclosed, by means of which it is possible to rapidly shut down the internal combustion engine by completely draining the intake chamber of the injection pump. The control device essentially comprises a switching element 34 which is movably arranged inside a feed pump 10 and which can be operated from outside the feed pump (10) by an actuator 62. The valve springs (50, 80) of the intake valve (25) and of the pressure valve (28) are thereby disengaged and auxiliary valve springs (52, 82) engaged, making it possible to reverse the function of the feed pump (10). Owing to its compact construction, the control device is particularly suitable for cramped installation conditions on the internal combustion engine and permits low-maintenance operation of the fuel injection system. <IMAGE>
