[origin: EP0392520A1] The invention relates to a turbo-ram jet with a ram air duct (4) which encircles the basic turbine engine and, with the ram jet mode switched off, is shut off from the supply of ram air, intake air simultaneously being allowed to flow into the basic engine; in this process, it should be possible to open or shut off an intake-side air inflow cross-section of the basic engine by axial adjustment of a tear-shaped body (1) relative to a flow divider (2); an annular slide (3), adjustable axially, always in the opposite direction to this body, should be provided, which shuts off the ram air duct (4) when the inflow cross-section of the basic engine is open and opens it when the inflow cross-section is shut off; the ram air duct should furthermore be widened in a polygonal shape (5) in the upstream direction, at the level of a shut-off zone brought about by mating surfaces of the said body and annular slide moving over one another locally. <IMAGE>
