[origin: EP0393523A2] A p-phenylenediamine series color developing agent or a precursor thereof having a substituent A at the ortho-position; Substituent A: <CHEM> wherein R<1> represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group and X represents -O-R<7> or <CHEM> wherein R<7> represents an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic ring and R<8> and R<9>, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic ring, R<8> and R<9> may combine with each other to form a heterocyclic ring, and a process for forming an age which comprises imagewise exposing a silver halide color photographic material and thereafter color-developing the color photographic material in the presence of a p-phenylenediamine series color developing agent or a precursor thereof having the aforesaid substituent A.
