[origin: EP0395941A1] In a device for emptying bags filled with bulk material, consisting of a feeding device which transports the bag in the device, a cutting device in the form of a circular knife (6), an emptying device which swings the two bag parts up relative to one another by means of two swivel plates provided with spikes, and a collecting hopper for the bulk material, the invention provides that, for the reliable, complete emptying of the bag and for avoiding paper parts of the cut bag in the bulk material, the circular knife of the cutting device is so arranged that its crown is situated below the upper side of the bag, and that between the swing-up swivel plates of the emptying device, an upright abutment plate (14) which supports each swung-up bag part individually is arranged at a vertical distance above the swivel plates, with the result that the bag is cut by the circular knife only at its underside and the adjoining transverse sides and the bag parts remain together even during emptying in that the bag is swivelled with its upper side up around the abutment plate during the emptying operation. <IMAGE>
