Abstract (en)
An electrorheological fluid composition comprising a dispersion of an aluminosilicate in an electrically highly resistive fluid vehicle, characterised in that the aluminosilicate comprises a) a moiety of empirical formula (Al2O3)b (SiO2)c where b and c are any numerical values provided that the ratio of b/c lies in the range of 1:1 to 1:9, and b) mono- or divalent main group metal cations, hydrogen ions or optionally substituted ammonium ions, and optionally comprises water, eg a crystalline zeolite, a particulate material for use as the disperse phase of an electrorheological fluid, which comprises such an aluminosilicate, and a process for the preparation of such a material.
