[origin: EP0396530A1] In order to improve the load-related and speed-related control of the scavenging system for a two-stroke internal combustion engine with scavenging ducts (2) opening out into the cylinder (1) and an outlet duct (6), with scavenging slits (7) and outlet slit (8) controlled by the piston (9) of the internal combustion engine, it is proposed that a solenoid-releasable diaphragm valve (11) arranged in one duct section (3) be connected upstream of the scavenging ducts (2) by means of which valve the scavenging flow to the individual scavenging slits (7) can be interrupted within the time it takes the scavenging slits (7) to open, making the scavenging time controllable as a function of the load and speed of rotation of the internal combustion engine. <IMAGE>
