At least one suitably dimensioned plate (36, 62) is inserted in the groove (30) and bonded all over to the bottom of the groove (30). The outermost plate (36) always possesses high mechanical strength. Mechanical means for guiding, suspending, securing or supporting objects are anchored in the bonded plate(s) (36) of high mechanical strength. A machine for making a groove (30) in an insulating layer (12, 64) of foamed plastic has an electrically heatable resistance wire (68) bent into the shape of a rectangular U, the height (h) and width (b) of which can be adjusted.
