[origin: EP0396803A1] The invention relates to a filter device for a vacuum cleaner which consists of a container (7), which is arranged removably in the dust compartment (2) of the vacuum cleaner and in which dirt is collected which is filtered out of the dirt-laden flow of suction air by means of a first filter (9), and of a second filter (13) which is arranged on the container (7) downstream of the first filter (9). The filter device can be connected tightly to the suction nozzle (8) of the vacuum cleaner and to an inlet opening (6) leading to the blower assembly (4) of the vacuum cleaner. An improved filtering effect is achieved without reducing the suction capacity of the vacuum cleaner in that the first filter consists of a filter bag (9), which is inserted in the container (7) so as to be exchangeable, and the second filter (13) is arranged on the container (7) so as to be exchangeable. <IMAGE>
