Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0397039A1] The invention relates to a device for separating tearing strips (6) from a tape (5) having a width equal to the length of the tearing strip (6), and for applying the same to a conveyed web (28) of packaging material, with a moving knife and a fixed straight knife (2, 7) for the progressive separation of the tearing strip (6), a device which can be subjected to the action of suction air for delivering the separated tearing strip (6), with its longitudinal direction in the transporting direction of the web (28) of the packaging material, to a suction roller (25) around which the continuously conveyed packaging material (5) is partly wound and which rotates at the speed of the packaging material, and a welding device (30) for welding the tearing strip (6) to the web (28) of packaging material. In order to permit operation at elevated cycle speeds, provision is made for the transfer device to comprise a suction wheel (18) which conveys the tearing strip (6), progressively taken over from one end, to the suction roller (25), the suction wheel (18) being virtually stationary in the taking-over position of the tearing strip (6) and being capable of acceleration, up to the point (X) of transfer to the suction roller (25), substantially to the speed of rotation of the latter. <IMAGE>
