[origin: WO9004879A1] A device for pumping molten metal from a vessel (1) comprises a centrifugal conduction-type magneto-hydrodynamic pump consisting of two disks (5, 6), which are permanent magnets, mounted with a gap in between and parallel to each other. The disks (5, 6) are inserted in a cylindrical bushing (7). The internal surfaces of the disks (5, 6), having different polarity, and the cylindrical bushing (7) form a working chamber (8) connected through an opening (9) in the disk (5) to the molten metal in the vessel (1) and through an opening (10) in the cylindrical bushing (7) to a sleeve (3) for discharging the molten metal. The metal surfaces of the sleeve (3) contacting the molten metal are provided with electroinsulating coatings. The invention may be used in the metallurgical industry for pumping metals whose melting point is lower than the Curie temperature of the magnetic material used for the magnetic elements of the pump.
