Abstract (en)
The invention relates to a method of characterising a layer of terrain, and in particular of determining its stratigraphy. A drilling is carried out in this terrain, during the drilling a certain number of raw parameters are recorded, including at least the depth reached, in accordance with a predetermined sampling protocol; these parameters are digitised; the parameters thus digitised are inserted into a volatile database contained in a memory of a processing unit also containing a permanent database, a rule base and an inference engine; for at least certain sampling cycles an inference cycle of the inference engine is triggered using the volatile database, the permanent database and the rule base in order to deduce therefrom the type of terrain traversed by the drilling; at least the type of terrain thus inferred, associated with its depth, is added to the permanent database; and the volatile database is reset to zero. <IMAGE>
