[origin: EP0401181A1] A washing procedure for feathers, especially duck and goose feathers, consists of placing the feathers in a drum or cage (5) which is taken through pre-wash, washing and rinsing stages in a series of separate compartments (21-24) in tanks (1, 2) before spin-drying. The pre-wash takes place in cold or warm water in the first tank (1), after which the cage or drum is transferred to the second tank for washing in hot water with detergent, followed by rinsing in cold or warm water, which can contain bleaching agents. The second, compartmented tank can deal with a number of drums or cages at the same time, and the water in it can be heated by immersed steam coil(s). The loading/unloading and transfer operations can all be controlled automatically.
