Abstract (en)

The process is an improvement to the so-called preturbining process where a massecuite (1) supersaturated with sugar is seeded with crystallisation nuclei, a part of the massecuite is removed at the end of desupersaturation, the sugar is extracted therefrom by centrifuging (20) and the mother liquors are sent back to a mixer (4) to be combined with the second part (41) of massecuite, before it is left to cool in a mixer (5). Hitherto, the mother liquors separated from the first part of massecuite were diluted with the sugar rinsings and thus most of the saving obtained by prolonging the mixing to a temperature of less than 50 DEG C was lost. According to the invention the mother liquors are sent to a buffer storage vessel (30), from which they are taken out again to be sent to a heat exchanger (31), and are then sprayed in a chamber (32) under partial vacuum, to be concentrated and to regain the temperature and concentration at the exit of the crystalliser (1). <IMAGE>
