[origin: EP0403840A1] Non-woven material composed of at least two components, namely essentially endless, molecularly oriented coarse filaments having relatively large diameters and essentially hardly molecularly oriented discontinuous fine microfibres having relatively small diameters. In departure from previous practice, the non-woven material does not have a layered structure with a phase boundary between the individual layers of the respective components. On the contrary, the material consists of a mixture of the coarse filaments with the fine microfibres, so that not only the filaments but also the microfibres extend, and are distributed, across the entire width of the cross-section of the material. <IMAGE>
