[origin: EP0403919A2] A device and a method are described for removing coating thickenings which have arisen transversely with respect to the running direction of a web after the coating with liquids or dispersions of continuously moving webs, for example photographic films or papers or magnetic recording media. Behind the coating and drying device for the web (1) there is a deflection roller (4) over which the web runs on its coated side. When coating a thickening is building up, a cleaning roller (2) which is covered with a nonwoven fabric is swivelled onto the web, whereupon the latter runs exclusively over the cleaning roller. <IMAGE>
