Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0404645A1] The invention relates to a plasma display with coplanar keeping-alive, and particularly an arrangement of electrodes enabling the keeping-alive discharges to be better confined within a predetermined zone. <??>The plasma display (10) of the invention comprises addressing electrodes (X1 to X3) crossed with keep-alive electrodes arranged in pairs (p1, p2), each pair of keep-alive electrodes being formed by an addressing/keep-alive electrode (Y1, Y2) and by a solely keep-alive electrode (E1, E2). A pixel (PX1 to PX6) is built substantially with each crossing of an addressing electrode (X1, X2, X3) with a pair (p1, p2) of keep-alive electrodes. At least one of the two electrodes (Y1, E1) of one pair (p1), comprises, in the region of each pixel (PX1 to PX6), a projecting surface (SB1 to SB3, SC1, SC3) pointing towards the other electrode. According to a characteristic of the invention, the projecting surfaces (SB1 to SB3, SC1 to SC3) are laid out so that, between two consecutive pixels (PX1 to PX6) of one pair (p1, p2), one of the two projecting surfaces closest to one another belongs to an addressing/keep-alive electrode (Y1, Y2), and the other to a solely keep-alive electrode (E1, E2). <IMAGE>
