[origin: EP0405373A1] In a procedure for opening receptacles, in particular receptacles containing harmful-substance residues, complete emptying and improved cleaning of these receptacles (2) is achieved, with the lowest possible outlay, in that the receptacles are cut through on a conveyor by means of a water-cutting jet. For opening, a water-jet cutting head (11) is used, which cuts through the supplied receptacle(s) (2) with a high-pressure water jet.
