[origin: EP0406825A1] Lubricants can be stabilised against oxidation by the addition of a sterically hindered amine of the formula I <IMAGE> in which n is 1 or 2, R is hydrogen or methyl, R1 is hydrogen, C1-C12-alkyl, allyl, benzyl, -CO-R4, -OR5 or -O-CO-R6, R2 is hydrogen, C1-C12-alkyl, C5-C12-cycloalkyl, C2-C5-hydroxyalkyl or a group of the formula II <IMAGE> R3 is, if n is 1, hydrogen, C1-C18-alkyl, C5-C12-cycloalkyl, C2-C5-hydroxyalkyl, C3-C18-alkoxyalkyl or C4-C20-dialkylaminoalkyl and, if n is 2, is C2-C12-alkylene, 2-hydroxy-1,3-propylene or xylylene, and R4 is hydrogen, C1-C12-alkyl or phenyl.
