[origin: EP0407727A2] In a gas scavenging device for a metallurgical vessel, a cover wall (2) of a gas pressure chamber (1) adjoins a lining brick (12) of the vessel. A plurality of metal tubes (8) which extend through the lining brick (12) are fixed to the cover wall (2). For fine subdivision of the gas stream entering the melt, a rod (13) consisting of a refractory ceramic material and having a plurality of channels (14) is inserted into each metal tube (8). <IMAGE>
