A carpet web (10) is pretreated, before being dyed, by applying a liquid pretreatment agent in a gap (2) and leaving the carpet web (10) to stand in an air passage (B). The web is sucked off in a dewatering device (C) and steamed in a steamer (D) before the dyeing operation commences.

Eine Teppichbahn (10) wird vor dem Färben vorbehandelt, indem in einem Spalt (2) ein flüssiges Vorbehandlungsmittel aufgetragen und die Teppichbahn (10) in einem Luftgang (B) verweilen gelassen wird. In einer Entwässerungsvorrichtung (C) wird die Bahn abgesaugt udn in einem Dämpfer (D) gedämpft, bevor der Färbevorgang beginnt.
