The device contains a sensing member (F) which extends over the weaving width and round which the warp yarns (2) are partially looped and which has sensors (S1 to Sn), arranged next to one another, for measuring the tension of the warp yarns (2) bearing against the respective sensor (S1 to Sn). An evaluation of the measured tension is carried out for each sensor (S1 to Sn). To detect warp-yarn breaks, the signal of each sensor (S1 to Sn) is analysed for the occurrence of an abrupt decrease and each such decrease is interpreted as a break of a warp yearn bearing against the respective sensor. There is therefore no need for the conventional warp catcher lamellae, and moreover the run-off of the warp yarns can be controlled. <IMAGE>

Die Vorrichtung enthält ein über die Webbreite reichendes, von den Kettfäden (2) teilweise umschlungenes Fühlorgan (F), welches nebeneinander angeordnete Sensoren (S1 bis Sn) zur Messung der Spannung der am jeweiligen Sensor (S1 bis Sn) anliegenden Kettfäden (2) aufweist. Für jeden Sensor (S1 bis Sn) erfolgt eine Auswertung der gemessenen Spannung. Zur Detektion von Kettfadenbrüchen wird das Signal jedes Sensors (S1 bis Sn) auf das Auftreten einer sprunghaften Abnahme untersucht und jede derartige Abnahme wird als Bruch eines am jeweiligen Sensor anliegenden Kettfadens interpretiert. Dadurch kann auf die konventionellen Kettwächterlamellen verzichtet und es kann ausserdem der Ablass der Kettfäden gesteuert werden.
