Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0408840A2] Such multiple switches, as are used in particular as on-off and/or changeover switches for motor vehicles and the like, must have an adequate life with a high operating reliability, despite the high stresses and load to which they are subjected, for example as a result of a high switching frequency on the one hand and atmospheric influences, such as air humidity, dirt and the like, on the other hand, which adequate life can be achieved in practice only by as little contact erosion as possible. The development of noise during the switching process is a disturbing influence in many cases. This is avoided by the contact surfaces (6, 7) in such a multiple switch being constructed in a straight-line manner, by the contact jacket (3) of the contact roll (2) being capable of being brought into contact with at least two contact surfaces (6, 7) located side-by-side, and by the contact roll (2) being arranged such that it can be deflected in a sprung manner on a guide part (8) which is displaceable in a straight line in the switch housing (1) at right angles to the axis of the contact roll (2) and parallel to the contact surfaces (6, 7), and has bearing journals (9, 10), which project at the ends beyond the contact jacket (3) and by means of which it is guided in a linearly displaceable manner on at least one control track (4) which runs adjacent to the contact surfaces (6, 7) and has a ramp arrangement (5), in such a manner that, in the event of a displacement of the guide part (8) from one of the contact surfaces (6, 7), it lifts on one side. <IMAGE>
