[origin: EP0408981A2] In a high-pressure discharge lamp, particularly a very high-pressure discharge lamp, the electrode shafts (4, 5) are surrounded in the region between the sealing foil (6, 7) and the fused-in end of the bulb neck (2, 3) in the direction of the discharge space (16) by a flexible fabric hose (21, 22) consisting of material which is resistant to high temperatures, is electrically insulating and is inorganic. In particular, the fabric hose (21, 22) consists of quartz fibres and has an internal diameter which corresponds at least to the external diameter of the electrode shaft (4, 5) and is at most 0.5 mm larger than the latter. As a result of the quartz hose (21, 22), adhesion of the quartz glass in the region of the bulb neck (2, 3) to the electrode shaft (4, 5) can be avoided and hence the quartz glass can be prevented from exploding in the shaft region. <IMAGE>
