[origin: EP0409754A1] The invention relates to a locking device for a door, window or the like, comprising a sliding leaf (1) equipped with a front upright in the form of a U-section (5) capable of engaging into a U-section (8) forming the corresponding upright of the frame (2) in the closing position, the bottoms (14, 10) of each of these U-sections (5, 8) maintaining a distance between them so as to delimit a free space (29) in which assume position, on the one hand, at least one hook bolt (20) fixed to an operating rod (19) and, on the other hand, at least one keeper (26) fastened in the U-section (8) of the frame (2). <??>To mitigate the problem of the free space (29) which, in the closing position, is delimited by the bottoms (14, 10) of the U-sections (5, 8) of the sliding leaf (1) and of the frame (2) respectively, particularly in the event of a reduction of the cross-section of one of these U-sections (5, 8), the locking device comprises, in the region of the operating rod (19), automatic compensation means which finally allow at least one hook bolt (20) and one keeper (25) of standard size to be inserted into this free space (29). <IMAGE>
