The induction furnace according to the invention contains a crucible (2), the side wall of which is formed by sections (4) which are arranged vertically, are intimately connected to one another by means of intermediate layers of insulating material (9) and have cooling channels (5). At the points where the intermediate layers of insulating material (9) are arranged, there are formed on one of the side faces of each section (4) a projection (7) and on the other side face a recess (8), the configuration of which corresponds to the configuration of the face, to be coupled thereto, of the projection (7) of the adjacent section (4). The crucible (2) is surrounded by an inductor (1) and connected to a cooled bottom-pouring plate (3). The projections (7) and the recesses (8) create an obstacle on the path of heat radiation from a metal melt (11), which is completely absorbed by uninsulated portions of the cooled sections (4). <IMAGE>

Der erfindungsgemäße Induktionsschmelzofen enthält einen Tiegel (2), dessen Seitenwand durch vertikal angeordnete und miteinander mittels Isolierstoffzwischenlagen (9) innig verbundene Sektionen (4) mit Kühlkanälen (5) gebildet ist. An den Stellen der Anordnung der Isolierstoffzwischenlagen (9) sind auf einer der Seitenflächen jeder Sektion (4) ein Vorsprung (7) und auf der anderen Seitenfläche ein Rücksprung (8) ausgebildet, dessen Konfiguration der Konfiguration der mit diesem zu koppelnden Fläche des Vorsprungs (7) der benachbarten Sektion (4) entspricht. Der Tiegel (2) ist von einem Induktor (1) umschlossen und mit einem gekühlten Metallgespann (3) verbunden. Die Vorsprünge (7) und die Rücksprünge (8) schaffen ein Hindernis auf dem Wege einer Wärmestrahlung einer Metallschmelze (11), die durch unisolierte Abschnitte der gekühlten Sektionen (4) ganz absorbiert wird.
