[origin: EP0413252A1] A device (1) for ironing articles of clothing, having a suspension apparatus (3) for the article of clothing (2) and a hem-clamping device, is described. The hem-clamping device contains a shaping part (10) which can be extended outwards from the centre line and which, during extension, takes up the hem (15) of the article of clothing by pivoting about a pivot point. To prevent the formation of a tag on the hem, it is proposed to move the shaping part, during extension, in a path (11) which corresponds at least approximately to the pivoting path (17) described by the hem (15). <IMAGE>
