[origin: EP0415006A2] The invention relates to a front jaw having a housing, in the axial bore of which is accommodated a release spring which is supported at one end on a transverse wall and at its other end on a piston-like spring plate connected to a tension rod. The latter passes through the transverse wall and carries a control plate. In order, in this front jaw, to keep the prestress of the release spring constant under different release circumstances, according to the invention the tension rod (8) is guided in a vertical long hole (2d) of the transverse wall (2c), and the control plate (9) has two webs (9c1, 9c2) which are arranged one above the other and have different widths and on which bear selectively the shorter lever arms (11a) of two angle levers (11) mounted on the housing (2) on vertical axes (10). <IMAGE>
