Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0415171A1] In a process for wrapping the button shank of a button (6) stitched to a garment by means of a sewing thread, in which a wrapping thread (1) consisting of an elastomeric plastic is wound under tension onto the thread bundle formed from the sewing thread between the button (6) and the garment (10), a reliable fastening of the end of the wrapping thread is achieved in a simple way in that, after the wrapping of the thread bundle (7), the wrapping thread (1) is drawn off from the button shank in a direction approximately perpendicular to the axis of the latter with a pull increased beyond its yield point, before it is severed at the button shank. At the same time, the thread end extending over a plurality of turns of the wrapping is firmly clamped between previously applied turns of the wrapping due to the fact that its diameter has been greatly reduced as a result of complete stretching. Two embodiments of a device intended for carrying out the process and designed as a compact and handy manual appliance are also described. <IMAGE>
