[origin: EP0415222A2] In the setting of the yarn cleaners for the fineness check, the number of false alarms permissible for a given yarn length, that is to say the permissible alarm frequency, is fixed. During the cleaning process, the measured values (GF) for the fineness are recorded continuously and their distribution is determined. From this distribution of the measured values and from the predetermined permissible alarm frequency, the response limits (GO, GU) are fixed independently by means of statistical regularities. <??>The yarn cleaners can thus be given an optimum setting automatically by reference to the actual production conditions, and there can be no confusion between yarns differing in fineness only slightly. <IMAGE>
