Abstract (en)
A drum photoconductor for use in a electrophotographic laser printer is disclosed. The photoconductor comprises a hollow inner aluminum core whose cylindrical outer surface is prepared to provide a nonspecular reflecting surface of controlled roughness. A thin barrier/adhesive layer is placed on the prepared core surface by a dip coating process. The barrier/adhesive layer comprises an epoxy resin, or a phenoxy resin that crosslinks in the presence of heat, such layers being insoluble in amine solvents. An OHSQ charge generation layer is dip coated onto the heat cured barrier/adhesive layer using of a coating ink that contains amine solvents. Dip coating of the charge generation layer includes the use of air flow control means to control the manner in which the amine solvents leave the coating ink as the drum is withdrawn from the bulk supply of coating ink. A DEH charge transport layer is dip coated onto the heat cured charge generation layer.
