[origin: EP0416270A1] A method and a device are proposed for controlling and regulating a self-ignition internal combustion engine. The device comprises at least one transducer (20), an electronic regulating device (30) for generating a quantity signal for the fuel metering and a control device (40) for the cylinder-specific control of individual controlling units (45) assigned to each cylinder. The controlling units determine the quantity of fuel injected into the cylinder by the pump elements. Under certain conditions correction elements (50, 60) are activated which determine the cylinder-specific correction values for the cylinder co-ordination. The control device (40) sends metering signals to the controlling units (45) as a function of the quantity signal and the correction values. <IMAGE>
