[origin: EP0417614A1] To make it possible to introduce slivers (F) between two rollers more effectively, on the driven roller (2) there is a spacing and driving ring (4) which has a height corresponding to the spacing (A). Moreover, this spacing (A) is provided in such a way that it is smaller than the smallest sliver thickness (D in Figure 2), in order to guarantee a compression of the sliver (F) between the rollers to the predetermined extent. The advantage is that, on the one hand, the sliver can be grasped better by means of the nip having the spacing (A), secondly the drag roller (3) rotates at a predetermined rate of rotation as early as when the sliver (F) is being introduced, and furthermore the ambient air of the rotating rollers (2) and (3) can be guided through the nip, thus assisting the drawing in of the sliver.
