[origin: EP0417640A2] The cathode support (4) has two connecting terminals (8, 9) which are fixedly connected to one another and together form a flange (20) which is supported by means of a compression bearing, pretensioned by springs (29), having balls (27, 28) of ceramic material in a supporting flange (3) connected to the control electrode (5). The balls (27, 28) rest in roller tracks aligned radially with respect to the optical axis (14) and hence ensure that the cathode (7) is centred with respect to the control electrode (6) irrespective of expansion. <IMAGE>
