[origin: EP0417717A2] There are described polyester fibres and filaments which, as a result of a reaction with carbodiimides, have capped carboxyl end groups, for which - the capping of the carboxyl end groups was effected predominantly by reaction with mono- and/or biscarbodiimides from which, however, only less than 30 ppm (by weight) of the polyester are left in free form in the fibres and filaments, - the free carboxyl end group content is less than 3 meq/kg of polyester, and - the fibres and filaments still contain at least 0.05 per cent by weight of at least one free polycarbodiimide or a reaction product with still reactive carbodiimide groups, and a process for preparing them. <??>The filaments described are suitable in particular for manufacturing paper machine wire-cloths.
