[origin: EP0418456A1] In a device for guiding sheets (1) made of paper or other sheet materials which are moved by drivable conveying means (10, 11, 12) and which has a straightedge (7) and a ball strip (8) which runs parallel to the straightedge and the individual balls (13) of which rest non-positively on the conveying means and the sheets moved above them, the starting force component of the conveyed sheets towards the straightedge as well as the peripheral speed and direction of rotation of the balls are to be kept as constant as possible and the danger thus reduced of the sheets straying from the straightedge. This is achieved in that there are arranged on the side of the balls facing away from the conveying means rotatable load elements (14) which are subject to the action of a spring force and which touch non-positively the surface of the balls assigned to them. The device is preferably used for guiding, aligning and holding down folded sheets in folding and printing machines, conveyor tables and sheet feeders. <IMAGE>
